ENGLISH:
The name of this school suggests that the institution was established by
Catholic brothers. And indeed, it is the fact that
the founders of this school were the brothers of
Sacred Heart of Mary (BHK or Bunda Hati Kudus). Since the first day of Frateran, the brothers of Sacred Heart of Mary continuously manage the school
under their Mardi Wiyata Foundation.
In a relax conversation between the leaders (Vikarus) of Sacred Heart of
Mary congregation and Frater (Padre or Father)
Adolfus Dwidjowasito, a question whether Frater
Adolfus was able to open and manage a new high school in Surabaya was thrown on the floor. With the sincere acceptance of the new task, Frater Adolfus opened Frateran Catholic High School first admission process on
August 3, 1963. On August 13, 1963, the school was officially established as an
all-boys Catholic High School with 33 enrolling students.
In 1966, the first National Final Examination process was participated by
Frateran's seniors to fulfill the high school graduation requirement in Indonesia.
Forty-one students participated in the examination, thirty-nine students passed.
Since its first school day until April 1967, Frateran shared the building and
facilities of Angelus Custos (AC) Catholic Junior High School. It is no coincidence
that the school was also under the management of Mardi Wiyata Foundation. The
arrangement was AC students will use the rooms in the morning and Frateran
students in the afternoon. In mid-1967, Frateran moved to its own building.
Since then, Frateran allows students to enroll in both morning and afternoon
classes. The number of its students started growing relatively fast from that point
until now. In 1996, over 1500 students enrolled at Frateran Catholic High School.
The new school building was followed by the development of school's auditorium
which was completed and started being used in 1969. Various improvements on
school's facilities have taken places since then. These were the efforts of Frater
Adolfus and his staffs, both the school's instructors and the administrators, to
place Frateran Catholic High School in an elite position in the Indonesia's top
high school chart and in the development of Indonesia's
people in general. This mission is in accordance
with the spirit of Frateran's founders which is to bring the love to God into reality through service to others, in this case the Indonesian youths. |
Important Timeline of Frateran Catholic High School
1963 Frateran Catholic High School was founded with
33 all-male students.
1967 Frateran moved to its own building.
1969 Frateran started using its auditorium.
1971 For the first time Frateran admitted female students.
There were 24
girls enrolled that year, divided evenly into 4 classes (6 girls per class out of 48 students).
1977 On the first day of January, based on the Republic
of Indonesia's
Minister of Education and Culture's Decision Letter (Surat Keputusan Menteri P &
K Republik Indonesia) number 49690/D/1/77, Frateran Catholic High School was determined to become
a government-
subsidized private school under Givernment Regulation (Peraturan Pemerintah/PP)
number 32, 1958. The status of the school became
Subsidized (Berbantuan).
1984 Three-stories laboratories building was completed.
The building
includes Physics lab, Chemistry lab, Biology lab, Foreign Language lab, Computer lab, and library.
1985 In the first-ever Indonesian private high school accreditation
process,
Frateran Catholic High School received the highest status of Disamakan, based on the
Official Decision of General Director of Elementary and Intermediate Education under the Ministry of
Education and Culture of
Indonesia on January 17, 1985 number 007/C/Kep/1/85.
School's Data Number (NDS): E 30044003.
School's Statistics Number (NSS): 303056003016.
1990 Based on the Official Decision of General Director
of Elementary and
Intermediate Education number 009/C/Kep/1/1990 on January 20, 1991 about the new high school accreditation,
Frateran was able to
maintain its status of Disamakan. |
With a good cooperation among its staffs, the school's stability in preparing
the best students in academic and life is well-maintained.
The school's teachers who hold the biggest responsibility
in improving and maintaining school's excellence seldom
leave their posts. Currently, there are eight instructors from Indonesia's Department of Education and Culture, twenty-two permanent Mardi Wiyata
Foundation's instructors, and nine temporary or part time instructors. In addition
to that, there are eight administrative staffs and eight office assistants.
Loyalty to the education excellence is one strength of Frateran. The fact that
Frater Adolfus, who was the founder and the first principal of Frateran, died on
January 30, 1991 while accompanying his students participating in National Youth
Scientific Works Championships (Lomba Karya Ilmiah Remaja) conducted by
PT INDOSAT in Jakarta shows this strength.
In 1980, the name Frateran rose into the national attention when for the first time
a Frateran student won the first place in the eletronic category of National Youth
Scientific Works Championships conducted by LIPI-TVRI (Indonesia's Science
Institute - Republic of Indonesia National Television). The student name was
Johan Boedianto and the title of the work was "Time Programmer". This became
the starting point of the Frateran's tradition of excellence in academic. Since
that point, every year Frateran sends its best
students to various academic championships, whether
they are in regional, national, or even international levels. In the international level, Frateran has represented Indonesia in the World Math Championships in Beijing, People Republic of China, and Asia-Pacific Youth
Scientific Championships in Singapore.
Realizing that the future will rely heavily on high technology, Frateran put
computer education as one of the required courses beginning 1990/1991
academic year. This replaced the position of computer education which previously
was only an extracurricular activity. These computer education classes are
conducted in the computer lab. One note about the computer lab is that the lab
is under the management of a team of instructors
that consist of several Frateran alumni. |
